If you change your place of residence and would like to travel abroad with your children in the near future, you can continue to use the children's passport. It is no longer possible to update the place of residence information in the children's passport.
The children's passport will no longer be issued, changed or extended from 01.01.2024. For you as parents of children under the age of 12, this eliminates the need to apply for or renew a children's passport every year.
If your child still has a valid children's passport, this ID document can continue to be used until it expires.
If you change your place of residence, you can apply for a normal passport for your child. This is valid for a maximum of 6 years for persons under the age of 24. When traveling within the European Union (EU) and to Norway, Iceland, Switzerland, Liechtenstein and Turkey, an identity card is also sufficient for your child. For destinations outside the EU, a passport is usually required.
- Children's passport change due to change of address
- Moving to a new city or municipality makes the place of residence information in the children's passport out of date
- Children's passport will no longer be issued, changed or extended since 01.01.2024
- If the child still has a valid child passport, this can be used until the end of its validity
- no responsibility given: Passport authorities may no longer change/update the place of residence since 01.01.2024
