If you require weapons or ammunition as a traditional marksman or markswoman for the preservation of customs, you must apply for a permit.
If you are a traditional marksman or markswoman and require weapons and ammunition to maintain traditional customs, a need to acquire and possess them is recognized. The permit is limited to single-shot long guns and up to three repeating long guns as well as the ammunition intended for them. As proof, you need a certificate from the traditional shooting association stating that you need these weapons to maintain your traditions. An indication of custom is a longstanding tradition and practice. The use of weapons may only be a necessary part of the cultivation of customs and not the predominant purpose.

- You are reliable within the meaning of the Weapons Act.
- You are personally suitable within the meaning of the Weapons Act.
- You are competent within the meaning of the Weapons Act.
- You have a need within the meaning of § 16 of the Weapons Act.
You can obtain the permit as follows:
- You make an application and submit the required documents
- The required documents are checked and you may have to submit additional documents,
- Your age, your reliability, your personal suitability, your expertise and your need will be checked (§ 4 paragraph 1 numbers 1 to 4 WaffG)
- a decision is made on the firearms law.
- Permit for the acquisition and possession of weapons or ammunition Issued to traditional shooters and for the preservation of customs

- Certificate from the traditional marksmen's association required
- Administrative fee: EUR 50

Responsibility lies with the local weapons authorities of the independent cities and districts responsible for your place of residence or habitual abode.
