If you are interested in a place on a degree course with restricted admission, you must register with the Foundation for University Admissions at www.hochschulstart.de and take part in the dialog-oriented service procedure.

The number of prospective students in Germany exceeds the number of available study places. Through central coordination in the dialog-oriented service procedure (DoSV), the Foundation for University Admissions ensures via www.hochschulstart.de that every applicant only receives one study place and that all available study places are allocated.

The Stiftung für Hochschulzulassung provides comprehensive advice on the allocation of study places.

No documents need to be submitted to the Stiftung für Hochschulzulassung. Please contact the participating universities to find out which documents you need to submit.

• You fulfill the individual requirements (e.g. Abitur grade)

The Stiftung für Hochschulzulassung carries out the DoSV on behalf of the universities. If a university participates in the procedure, you must register with the Stiftung für Hochschulzulassung at www.hochschulstart.de, submit online applications via the portal and put them in the desired order. The applications will be forwarded to the universities and you may have to submit further documents to the universities. The universities will rank the applicants. Depending on your position on the ranking list, you will receive an offer of admission that you can accept. If you do not want to accept the offer yet, you can wait and see whether you receive an offer with your other applications.

Lower-ranking offers are automatically eliminated from the process. At the end of the procedure, you will then receive a place for the best possible offer up to that point.

The application process takes 3 to 6 months.

For a winter semester, you must apply online by July 15.

For a summer semester, you must apply online by January 15.

The hochschulstart.de portal will inform you whether some universities have set different deadlines.
