If you are a food company/company that carries out activities related to the production, processing and distribution of food (including e-commerce), you must register with your municipal food control authority.
Food establishments are obliged under European Union law to register and to report significant changes in the work technology process or conversions. This applies to any facility you manage or operate. It does not matter whether it is the processing, production or distribution of food. Food businesses are all establishments that produce, process, market, transport, etc., directly or via the Internet, and regardless of whether they are profit-making or not.
Food companies are, for example:
- Pharmacies/drugstores that carry food or dietary supplements in their assortment
- Displays of food vending machines
- Bakeries
- Cafes
- Ice cream
- Producers of food of animal origin
- Fisheries, crustaceans, shellfish and mollusc holdings
- Restaurants
- Wholesalers, transporters, importers and exporters of food
- Snacks
- Kiosks
- Confectioners
- Kitchens and canteens (including all communal catering facilities)
- Agricultural holdings for the rearing or keeping of food-producing animals
- Food brokers (for example via the Internet)
- Milk bars
- Dairy workers
- Mini-markets
- mobile food retailing including sales vehicles
- Primary producers of plant-based foods, such as fruits, vegetables, cereals, herbs
- Boards
- Petrol stations with food sales

You have a business that produces, processes or distributes food. These include:
- Restaurants
- artisanal and industrial manufacturers
- Farms and winegrowers
- Companies that only carry food marginally in their assortment, such as petrol stations, pharmacies, drugstores and fitness studios
- Establishments which supply food free of charge, such as the food banks
- Businesses engaged in a purely brokerage activity
- Schools, kindergartens, old people's homes, club homes that regularly deliver food (canteen, canteen)
- Entrepreneurs who offer food on the Internet. It does not matter whether they use the food
- on your own homepage,
- via other providers or
- on marketplaces such as eBay or Amazon.
Your company has not yet been registered with the competent authority or there have been changes in the work technology process or changes to the information or data already recorded or you want to deregister your food business.
- Use the form available if necessary and send it to the competent food control authority.
- In any case, the required information on the food business must be submitted to the food control authority for registration before the start of activity, in case of doubt send the required information in writing to the competent food control authority
- The competent food control authority shall record the operating data.
- If there are changes, in particular in the work technology process, or conversions, to the information or data already recorded or if you wish to deregister your food business, please also contact the responsible food control authority.
- The data and registration details must be reported before the start of the activity.
- Significant changes in the work technology process or conversions must be reported immediately.
