How do I apply for a residence permit for a temporary stay for urgent humanitarian or personal reasons or significant public interests?
You are seeking a temporary stay in Germany, for example to temporarily care for a seriously ill family member, to receive urgently needed medical treatment or to complete vocational training. to undergo urgently needed medical treatment or to complete vocational training. You are staying in Germany and are not required to leave the country.
In this case, you may be granted a residence permit by the Aliens Department as long as urgent humanitarian or personal reasons or substantial public interests require your continued temporary presence in Germany.
The residence permit does not entitle you to pursue gainful employment. It can be granted by the Aliens Department upon application.
A residence requirement may be imposed on you.
You are entitled to benefits in accordance with the Asylum Seekers Benefits Act.
Family reunification is excluded.
You are not entitled to participate in an integration course. You can only be admitted to a course if there are places available.

Exemption from fees if you receive social benefits
As a rule, you must apply for your residence permit in person.

If your application is approved, the foreigners authority will commission the Federal Printing Office to produce the electronic residence permit. The residence permit is in the form of a check card with additional electronic functions.

When applying for a residence permit, you will usually be informed of the duration of the procedure by the responsible immigration authority (approx. 6 to 8 weeks).
