People in need of care who are generally cared for at home can be cared for in a facility at night.
Night care is intended to support care at home. You can make use of night care services if you are unable to provide sufficient care at home or if this is necessary to supplement or strengthen home care.
Within the scope of the maximum benefit amounts, the long-term care insurance fund covers the care-related expenses, including the expenses for care, and the expenses for the medical treatment care services required in the facility (between €689 and €1,995 per month, depending on the level of care). The costs for accommodation and meals as well as separately billable investment costs, on the other hand, must generally be borne privately.
Night care facilities look after people in need of care who require assistance with going to bed, getting up and personal hygiene.
Night care facilities are often used by people with dementia who have a disturbed day-night rhythm. If they are accommodated in a night care facility at night, relatives can sleep through the night and look after those in need of care again during the day.
People in need of care in care grades 2 to 5 can make use of day and night care in addition to outpatient care benefits in kind, care allowance or the combined benefit in accordance with Section 38, without these entitlements being offset.
Ask your care insurance fund which documents are required and whether there is a special application form.
- Night care must be applied for from the care insurance fund
- It applies to people in need of care with care levels 2 to 5 if sufficient care cannot be provided at home or
- if night care is required to supplement or strengthen home care.
People in need of care of all care levels (including care level 1) can also apply for a benefit amount of 125 euros for night care (relief amount).
- You submit an application for night care benefits to your care insurance fund
- You can obtain information on the required documents and the procedure from your long-term care insurance fund
Night care (semi-residential care) refers to care provided during the night in a care facility, even though the person in need of care is receiving care at home during the day.
