Do you want to obtain your Abitur as a non-student? Then you do not need to attend a grammar school or another school leading to the general higher education entrance qualification in order to take the Abitur examination.
With the Abitur examination for non-students, the general higher education entrance qualification can be acquired without attending a Gymnasium or another school leading to the general higher education entrance qualification.
The following documents must be submitted by post (all documents must be signed by hand):
a) Curriculum vitae in tabular form with a detailed description of the educational background and information on previous employment,
b) Certificate of registration from the responsible registration office with the most recent date of main residence in the last 6 months, or an application for exemption if, for example, you work in Rhineland-Palatinate,
c) Photograph not older than 1 year,
d) a declaration as to whether, when and where an attempt has already been made to take an examination to obtain a general higher education entrance qualification,
e) a declaration that no school or institution at which the general higher education entrance qualification can be obtained has been attended in the past twelve months,
f) a declaration of choice of subjects for the two performance subjects and the two
basic subjects for the written examination and the four examination subjects for the oral examination (see Abitur examination regulations for non-students dated 26.05.2011),
g) a report on the preparation for the examination, which must contain precise details of the subject areas studied for each chosen examination subject; in German and in the foreign languages, the literary works that have been particularly studied must also be indicated.
Upon application, admission to the Abitur examination is granted to those who
a) has reached the age of 19 at the beginning of the written examination,
b) have been registered with their main residence in Rhineland-Palatinate for at least six months,
c) can prove that they have adequately prepared for the Abitur examination, in particular by attending distance learning courses or other suitable preparatory courses,
d) has not attended a school or institution at which the general higher education entrance qualification can be obtained in the year preceding the Abitur examination,
e) has not failed more than once an examination for the general higher education entrance qualification in Rhineland-Palatinate or in another state of the Federal Republic of Germany.
Applications must be submitted in writing to the school authorities by April 1 of each year.
The school authority examines the applications.
The school authority decides on admission by written notification.
The Abitur examination takes place at a school designated by the school authority around May/June of the following year.
The application deadline is April 1 of each year.
Unfortunately, late applications cannot be considered.
