As an employer, you can eliminate the need for recurring inspections of certain systems in potentially explosive atmospheres by drawing up a maintenance concept.

Periodic inspections of certain systems or components of systems in potentially explosive atmospheres may not be necessary if the employer has defined a maintenance concept as part of the risk assessment. This must ensure that a safe condition of the system is maintained and that explosion safety is guaranteed.

The suitability of the maintenance concept must be assessed as part of the inspection. The work and measures carried out on the system as part of the maintenance concept must be documented and presented to the authorities on request.

An informal complaint can be made by telephone, e-mail or in writing. The following information is required for processing:

• Type of installation(s) requiring monitoring
• Details of the employer/operator
• Details of the reason for the complaint

For certain systems in potentially explosive atmospheres, a maintenance concept that meets certain requirements may make a periodic inspection unnecessary.
