When working in tropical or subtropical regions, the employer is obliged to arrange occupational health screening.

If you are planning a professional stay in tropical and subtropical regions (between 40° north and 40° south latitude), you need an occupational health screening. This must be carried out before your stay and offered again after your stay.

The medical check-up is for your safety and is intended to prevent you from becoming ill while carrying out your job. This can be recognized as an occupational illness and result in compensation claims.

As part of the medical check-up, you will receive occupational health advice on

- Climatic and hygienic situations at the destination,

- special health risks and rules of conduct,

- malaria and vaccination prophylaxis.

If necessary, a physical examination will follow. This ensures that a stay in the tropics does not endanger your health.

An occupational health check-up must take place before you start work. Follow-up check-ups within 24-36 months. Your employer must also arrange follow-up check-ups. Appointments are made with specialized doctors/clinics for this purpose. Contact your company doctor or employer.

The employer bears the costs of preventive care. The costs for vaccinations are covered by the employer or the health insurance company.
