Are you a late repatriate and would like to have your professional qualification recognized? Find out more here.
As a late repatriate, you are entitled to a recognition procedure for your educational qualifications. This involves checking whether your qualification is comparable to a German qualification.
You can have school, university and vocational qualifications recognized.
You can have your professional qualification compared with any profession that exists or no longer exists in Germany.
Your professional experience is generally not taken into account.
- Proof of recognition as a late repatriate
- Proof of your degree (school, university or vocational qualification)
- You are an ethnic German resettler
- You have obtained your degree in a resettlement area
To have your qualification obtained abroad checked, you must submit an application. This should be sent to the relevant office. Which office is responsible for you depends on the following factors
- Your foreign qualification,
- Your place of residence or work,
The competent authority will compare the qualification you obtained abroad with the German reference qualification. If this comparison does not reveal any significant differences, you will be granted full equivalence.
If there is partial equivalence in the regulated professions, the competent body will give you specific measures with which you can compensate for the differences found.
differences found.
"Regulated" means that you require recognition of your professional qualifications in order to practice the profession or use the professional title.
In the professions for which you do not necessarily need recognition (non-regulated), you will receive a notification in which the differences identified are described in detail. You can use this to apply directly to employers or choose an individually suitable further training course.
The recognition procedure ends with either a positive or a negative decision.
There is no provision for partial recognition.
If you have lost certificates of qualification for your profession, these can be reissued.
You can also go through the equivalence procedure in accordance with the Federal Qualifications Assessment Act (BQFG). This is possible for 600 professions that are regulated by federal law. You can find out exactly which professions this applies to on the federal government's website (BQ-Portal).
- Facilitated recognition for late repatriates
- Possible for all certificates and qualifications (school, university or vocational qualifications)
- Alternatively, recognition under the Federal Qualifications Assessment Act (BQFG) is possible (even after negative recognition under the BVFG)
