Would you like to run a pharmacy? Then you need an operating license.

If you want to run a pharmacy, you need a permit from the competent authority. You can apply for a license for your main branch and up to 3 branch pharmacies. The permit is issued to you personally for specified premises and obliges you to personally manage the pharmacy on your own responsibility. Several persons can only operate a pharmacy in the legal form of a general partnership (OHG). Each partner requires a separate license.

• Official certificate of good conduct document type 0 (zero)

• Applicant has full legal capacity
• German license to practice as a pharmacist

• Proof of the required premises and
• the equipment required to operate a pharmacy
• required reliability

• Informal written application including the required documents
• Examination of the documents submitted and subsequent granting of the requested pharmacy operating license

The license to operate a pharmacy is issued within two months of submission of the complete application documents at the latest.

A pharmacy may only be opened after the competent authority has certified that the pharmacy meets the legal requirements (acceptance). The license expires, among other things, if it has not been used within one year.

The permit expires, among other things

• by death,
• by renunciation,
• by withdrawal or revocation of the license to practice as a pharmacist,
• if no use has been made of the license for one year (the competent authority may extend the period if there is good cause).

An appeal may be lodged against the decision.
