Purchase of firewood in various forms of processing.

The following forms of provision are common:

Firewood in short or long form (2 to 20 meters), delimbed, stored on a path accessible by car, so-called "pile wood".

Firewood to make yourself, i.e. whole logs or parts of logs lying in the forest, not delimbed, so-called "flat lots".

Plywood in 1 meter lengths, fresh from the forest (not dried); processing is very cost-intensive.

Fresh firewood, cut to stove lengths of 25 or 33 centimeters and NOT dried. This wood still needs to be dried/stored.

Stove-ready firewood, cut to stove lengths of 25 or 33 centimeters and dried to less than 20 percent water content in accordance with the Small Combustion Plant Ordinance

The forestry offices and forest districts of Landesforsten Rheinland-Pfalz generally only offer "Polterholz".

It may be necessary to fill out firewood order forms at the forestry offices. In any case, a binding order is necessary. Some forestry offices auction off the firewood so that no order is possible/necessary.

If you intend to cut your own firewood with a chainsaw in the state and municipal forests of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate, you must have the appropriate expertise in handling chainsaws. In the interest of your safety and health, the forest ranger responsible for you must therefore check your expertise before you start your self-cutting activity.

The necessary expertise in handling chainsaws can be demonstrated by

• certified participation in a chainsaw course that corresponds to the minimum content of DGUV Information 214-059 or
• professional activity that requires regular use of the chainsaw

must be proven. The certificate of competence must be provided by every person who carries out chainsaw work.

If you are interested in a chainsaw course, you can contact the nearest forestry office or forest district in your area or any other provider of such courses known to you.

Please remember that in public forests you must carry logging permits and the chainsaw course certificate with you when processing and removing wood.

You can obtain information on timber prices, in particular the regional offer prices, from the private and public companies that provide firewood in the desired processing form or from the forestry office or forest district in your area.

The price of wood is influenced by the type of tree, the sales size and the state of drying.

Depending on the operation and the necessary natural conditions, processing periods or restrictions to certain seasons may apply.
