The EC permanent residence permit is comparable to the settlement permit. It is also a permanent residence permit and allows you, as a third-country national, a greater degree of mobility within the EU.
Prerequisites
- Your identity has been established and you meet the passport and visa requirements.
- You have been living in Germany with a residence permit for at least five years without interruption.
- Your livelihood and that of your dependents is secured by fixed and regular income.
- You are insured in the statutory health insurance scheme or have unlimited or automatically renewable health insurance cover.
- You have paid contributions into the statutory pension insurance scheme or another pension scheme with comparable benefits.
- You have sufficient knowledge of German and basic knowledge of the German legal and social system.
- You have sufficient living space for yourself and your family.
- There are no grounds for deportation or other grounds of public safety or order that would prevent you from being granted a permanent residence permit-EG.
- Proof of fulfillment of passport and visa requirements
- Proof that you have been living in Germany with a residence permit for at least five years without interruption
- Proof of secure livelihood
- Proof of health insurance cover
- Proof of paid pension insurance contributions or payments to a comparable pension scheme
- Proof of sufficient knowledge of German and basic knowledge of the German legal and social system
- Proof of sufficient living space for yourself and your family
- Proof that there are no grounds for deportation or other grounds of public safety or order that would prevent the issue of a permanent residence permit-EG
Since September 1, 2011, you will receive a residence permit in the form of a check card with additional electronic functions. You can find more information on this under "Introduction of the electronic residence permit (eAT)" .
You must apply for a permanent residence permit-EG at the responsible foreigners authority. Depending on where you live, the foreigners authority is the city administration or the district administration.
