You do not have the financial means to finance various educational or leisure activities for your child? Then you have the option of applying for benefits from the education and participation package.

The aim of the education package is to ensure that children as well as teenagers and young adults from financially disadvantaged families are not deprived of the necessary education and training opportunities. As a parent, you have the opportunity to apply for financial support for your children. The funding covers the following areas:

Up to a maximum of 18 years of age:

• Children's participation in social and cultural life, e.g. in a sports club or music school, is subsidized with €15.00 per month.

Up to the age of 25:

• The provision of personal school supplies is subsidized with €150.00 per year (€100.00 for the first half of the school year, €50.00 for the second half).
• Costs are covered for additional appropriate learning support, irrespective of the risk of promotion, in order to achieve the learning goals set in accordance with school regulations.
• The actual costs of one-day excursions to schools and day-care centers are reimbursed.
• For school trips lasting several days in accordance with school regulations, the actual costs will be reimbursed.
• Exemption from the costs of communal lunches for pupils and children at school, daycare centers or after-school care centers.
• The necessary actual expenses for transportation to the nearest school of the chosen course of education (monthly student tickets) will be covered if they cannot reasonably be met from the standard rate.

• If applicable, state the child benefit number
• Proof of need, e.g. in the form of a decision on:
  • Child supplement
  • housing benefit
  • Benefits according to the Asylum Seekers Benefits Act
• Invoices, receipts and other evidence, if applicable
• If necessary, certificates from the school, daycare center, after-school care center

The responsible office will inform you of any other documents that may be required.

Children and young people up to the age of 25 who are unable to cover their education and participation needs from their own income and assets or their family's own income and assets and who are therefore entitled to

• basic security benefits for jobseekers or
• social assistance
• benefits under the Asylum Seekers Benefits Act

or whose families

• child supplement or
• housing benefit

receive housing benefit. Upper age limit for benefits for participation in culture, sport and leisure: 18 years.

Benefits for education and participation are available on application and must be applied for separately - each benefit separately and for each child individually. If possible, find out in advance from the responsible office how you can apply for benefits from the education package most easily.
The staff will also help you with the application on request. Fill in the required forms, sign the application and compile the necessary supporting documents.
Send the complete application documents by post to the relevant office or hand them in personally. You will receive written notification as to whether your child is eligible for the program and, if so, which programs.

Claims to benefits under the education and participation package in accordance with the Federal Child Benefit Act (for families with child supplement or housing benefit) expire 12 months after the end of the calendar month in which they arose.

The benefits of the education and participation package are intended to ensure that children and young people as well as schoolchildren have a decent minimum standard of living in terms of social and educational participation.

If you receive unemployment benefit II or social benefit, you should generally contact the job center.
For families who receive social assistance, housing benefit or the child supplement, the responsible district administration or the administration of the district-free city is the point of contact.
