If you want to carry alarm, irritant and signal weapons, then you need the "small" gun license.
If you want to carry a firearm in public, i.e. outside your home or business premises, your contented property or a shooting range, you need a firearms license. This also applies to alarm, irritant and signal weapons ("small" weapons license).
Requirements for obtaining a weapons license:
- Age of majority (18 years),
- reliability,
- personal suitability,
- Proof of a need*,
- Proof of liability insurance*,
- Proof of technical and legal knowledge of weapons*.
(* not required for "small firearms license").
- Identity card/passport
- Proof of insurance
If the firearms license is to be issued for an activity within the scope of the guarding trade, corresponding guarding orders must be submitted as proof of need as well as a business registration.
The issuance of a firearms license is subject to a fee. The responsible office will inform you about the amount of the fee.
The granting of a permit to carry a weapon (weapons license) always requires the granting of a permit to acquire and possess weapons (weapons possession card). This does not apply to the issuance of the so-called "small" firearms license.
Proof of expertise is provided by a weapons expertise examination, for which the Thuringian State Administration Office is responsible. You can submit an application for this examination to your district or city or to the office of the examination board at the Thuringian State Administration Office.
