If you are an expert in firearms or ammunition and want to own or acquire them, you need a permit to do so.

Weapons or ammunition experts who wish to acquire and possess firearms or ammunition for their activities require a permit for this purpose. Scientific or technical purposes, testing, appraisal or examination, and similar purposes are recognized as reasons for acquiring firearms and ammunition. Proof of scientific activity will usually be requested from you in the form of publications or other evidence of expertise. An appraisal activity must be separated from a collection activity. You will not be required to be publicly appointed and sworn in by a Chamber of Crafts. The permit is usually issued to you for firearms or ammunition of any kind.

• Identity card/passport,
• If applicable, weapons possession cards that have already been issued,
• Proof of your expertise, such as appropriate professional training
• Proof of your need, for example future orders for expert work with firearms (particularly noteworthy, especially scientific or expert activities in connection with weapons and ammunition; in the case of scientific activities, for example, also publications as proof of your expertise)
• Proof (certificates or safety-related expert opinions) that your weapons and ammunition are safely stored.

• You are reliable within the meaning of the Weapons Act.
• You are personally suitable within the meaning of the Weapons Act.
• You are competent within the meaning of the Weapons Act.
• You have a need within the meaning of the Weapons Act. You require firearms or ammunition for an activity as an expert or expert witness.

The issuance of a firearms possession card for firearms and ammunition experts is subject to a fee. The competent office will inform you of the fees.

You can obtain the permit in the following way:

• You make an application and submit the required documents

A special deadline is not provided. However, due to the extensive review and approval process, it is advisable to submit the relevant application at least 1 month before commencing activities.
