You must provide proof of instruction in the guarding trade if you are employed and take on guarding tasks in the guarding trade on your own responsibility.

A permit for the guarding trade is only granted if you have participated in an IHK instruction on the regulations and duties necessary for the exercise of the trade. This comprises at least 40 hours of instruction, during which you must be present without absences. Among other things, you will be taught your legal rights and duties as a security guard as well as techniques for dealing with people in conflict situations. Your knowledge will be tested through oral and written questions. With the certificate, you will also be entered in the guard register.

This instruction requirement applies to guarding contractors as well as security guards. If you want to open a security company or work in certain areas, such as refugee accommodations, as a store detective, in discotheques or for patrols in other public places, the instruction is not sufficient.For this, you must take the more extensive examination for the guarding trade.

If you have a degree in a relevant training occupation, for example as a specialist for protection and security, you do not have to provide proof of the training.

• in the case of legal entities: the legal representatives (managing directors), insofar as they are directly entrusted with the execution of guarding tasks and have assumed these tasks after 01.12.1991
