To transport dangerous goods by road, you must have an ADR training certificate.

Dangerous goods can only be transported by road under certain conditions. The transportation of dangerous goods is regulated by the Dangerous Goods Ordinance for Road, Rail and Inland Waterways (GGVSEB) and the European Agreement concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road (abbreviation ADR, French for Accord européen relatif au transport international des marchandises dangereuses par route).

Drivers who transport dangerous goods by road must always be in possession of an ADR certificate (as defined in 8.2.1 ADR).
ADR certificate:

The ADR certificate is issued to you by the Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK) after successful participation in a training course at a recognized organizer and subsequent passing of an examination and is limited to 5 years. The examination is conducted by the IHK and is taken in writing. The prerequisite for the examination is the complete participation in a training course recognized by the IHK. Admission to the examination for an advanced course can only take place if the participant has previously passed the examination for the basic course. To renew the ADR certificate, again for a limited period of time, a further training course must be attended and an examination passed. The validity date of the ADR certificate is extended by five years if it is passed.

You will only be admitted to the respective examination if you have attended the corresponding training course recognized by the IHK without any absences. You will only be admitted to the examination for an advanced course if you present a valid ADR training certificate in addition to attending a recognized training course. The examination fee is based on the applicable fee schedule of the local Chamber of Industry and Commerce.

First, you attend a training course lasting at least 2.5 days at a recognized training provider.

• As a rule, the training organizer will register you for the examination at the Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK). If not, register online or in writing with the IHK.
• The IHK conducts the examination and determines the examination location.
• The examination is passed if the number of errors specified on the examination form has not been exceeded.

Once you have passed the exam, the IHK will issue you with the ADR training certificate and you can start working

As a rule, you will receive notification of whether you have passed or failed the examination approximately 2 weeks after taking it.

Contact your Chamber of Industry and Commerce. The IHK approves the training courses for dangerous goods drivers, conducts the examinations and issues the ADR certificates. The training courses can be held at a recognized training provider.

Training courses can only be attended at organizers recognized by the IHK; the examination is then conducted by the IHK that has recognized the training organizer.
