If you wish to work as a lawyer, you must apply for admission to the Bar Association of Thuringia.
If you want to practice law, you need to be licensed.
Prerequisites:
- You have obtained the qualification for the office of judge according to the German Judges Act or
- You meet the entry requirements according to the Law on the Activity of European Lawyers in Germany of March 9, 2000 (BGBl. I p. 182) or
- you have passed the aptitude test in accordance with this law.
The admission becomes effective upon delivery of a certificate issued by the Bar Association.
This certificate may not be handed over until the applicant has been

- has provided proof that professional liability insurance has been taken out or has submitted a provisional confirmation of coverage.
Upon admission, the applicant becomes a member of the admitting Bar Association. After admission, the activity may be pursued under the professional title of "Rechtsanwalt" (lawyer).

In accordance with § 3 of the statutes of the Thuringian Bar Association on the levying of administrative fees for the admission procedure, a fee of 400.00 euros is charged.
Admission to the bar can be applied for in any German country, even if the qualification for the judiciary was obtained in another German country.
The Bar itself, as a self-governing authority, shall be responsible for issuing an objection notice.
The Lawyers' Disciplinary Court established at the Higher Regional Court is responsible for disputes under public law in the first instance.
