Law on the emblems of the state of Thuringia from 30.01.1991, GBl. p. 1
Regulation for the execution of the law about the national emblems of the country Thuringia (AVHz)
The use of the Thuringian state coat of arms is only permitted to the agencies of the state. The so-called Thuringia signet, on the other hand, may be used by anyone.
On January 10, 1991, the Thuringian Parliament passed the Law on the Emblems of the State of Thuringia, published in the Law Gazette for the State of Thuringia No. 1/1991.
According to this law, the coat of arms of Thuringia shows an upright standing, eightfold red-silver striped, gold-crowned and gold-armed lion on a blue background, surrounded by eight silver stars.
If, at first glance, a certain similarity with the coat of arms of the State of Hesse is noticeable, a closer comparison reveals four important differences:
The Hessian lion is cross-striped ten times, with this stripe starting with silver from the top, it is uncrowned, and there are no stars scattered on the shield's background.
Due to the legal regulations concerning the Thuringian coat of arms, the use of the state coat of arms is reserved exclusively for the authorities and departments of the state.
For use by third parties, the state government has developed a Thuringian coat of arms for all, the so-called Thuringian signet, which can be downloaded from the Internet and used free of charge and without approval by anyone. You can find it on the homepage of the Free State of Thuringia.
