If you receive social welfare or basic income support and have just had a baby, the social welfare office will cover the cost of counseling sessions.
Those who are unable to support themselves with their own resources or who are unable to help themselves in special circumstances and who do not receive sufficient help elsewhere have a right to personal and economic assistance. A central goal of social assistance is to strengthen the self-help forces and to make it possible to lead a life worthy of a human being.
During the first months and years of their child's life, many parents experience situations that make them feel insecure, worried or overwhelmed.
Health assistance offers mothers and fathers advice on issues such as:
- insatiable crying and frequent restlessness of the infant
- difficulty falling asleep and staying asleep
- Problems with breastfeeding, feeding and eating
- Behavioral problems such as excessive anger and defiance, fearfulness or aggressiveness, unwillingness to play
- separation anxiety and difficulties
- Tense family situation
- relationship problems
- excessive demands, insecurity and exhaustion
- postpartum depression
- Application for health assistance
- Identity card or passport (or other documents that can identify the person beyond doubt).
The competent social welfare institution will provide information on the documents required in individual cases.
Health assistance is provided to persons,
- who do not have statutory health insurance or do not have sufficient private health insurance,
- the provision of services through the health insurance fund (§ 264 para. 4 SGB V) is out of the question
- and who cannot reasonably be expected to raise the funds for the necessary assistance from their income and assets.
- Health assistance Provided as health counseling on the occasion of initial contacts with families with infants.
- Health assistance services for social welfare recipients
- Counseling for parents of newborns as part of social assistance benefits
- Responsible: the locally responsible social welfare office or the local social welfare agency.
Those seeking advice and assistance can turn directly to the social welfare office of their district or independent city in case of need.
Social assistance is provided by local (counties and independent cities) and, in special cases, by supra-local social assistance agencies (state).
