Safe feed is a prerequisite for safe food and healthy animals. This is why feed companies are monitored and feed is tested.
Official feed monitoring is part of consumer health protection. The Thuringian State Office for Agriculture and Rural Areas (TLLLR) is responsible for target and risk-oriented monitoring of compliance with the extensive regulations of feed legislation by feed companies. Producers, manufacturers and trading companies of all types of animal feed are monitored.
The production and feeding of safe animal feed is a prerequisite
- for the production of safe and high-quality animal food,
- for the health of the animals and
- for the prevention of hazards to the ecosystem.
Feed business operators are responsible for ensuring that the feed they produce, manufacture and supply is safe.
The safety of feedstuffs for animals and the foodstuffs obtained from them is mainly checked by means of company audits, sampling with subsequent laboratory tests - primarily for undesirable and prohibited substances -, labeling checks and measures for the traceability of feedstuffs at all stages of production.
There are no costs for a normal official control.
When carrying out an additional official control in accordance with Article 79(2)(c) of Regulation (EU) 2017/65 , costs of EUR 72 to EUR 576 are incurred.
