If your driving license has been revoked, you must apply for a new one.
The same regulations apply for this new issue as for the first issue.
You can apply for a driver's license in person at your local driving license authority or digitally via the online service.
General:
- Photo ID (identity card or passport (if passport is presented, this must be accompanied by a current registration certificate from the registration office responsible for the main place of residence; registration certificate must not be older than 3 months at the time of application))
- Photo, 45 x 35 mm in portrait format and without border (so-called biometric passport photo) - frontal photo, without head covering and without covering the eyes
- Details of previous possession of a domestic or foreign driving license
- Certificate of good conduct stating the purpose of "new driver's license"; must be applied for at the residents' registration office responsible for the main place of residence
- Proof of participation in first aid training. In the case of a new driver's license, no proof is required if the applicant has already taken part in first aid training or training in first aid (see § 76 No. 11a FeV).
Classes A, A2, A1, AM, B, BE, L, T:
- Eye test certificate from an optician or certificate/opinion from an ophthalmologist (must not be older than 2 years at the time of application)
Classes C, C1, CE, C1E, D, D1, DE, D1E:
- Certificate from an ophthalmologist (must not be older than 2 years at the time of application)
- Certificate of physical and mental aptitude (must not be older than 1 year at the time of application)
Additionally for categories D, D1, DE, D1E:
- Proof of suitability for the special requirements according to No. 2 of Annex 5 to the FeV
- Certificate of good conduct stating the purpose of use "Granting of driving license for passenger transport"; must be applied for at the registration office responsible for the main place of residence
The application for a new driver's license should be submitted about 4 months before the expiry of the suspension period due to the sometimes very long processing time.
The certificate of good conduct must also be applied for in person.
If there are concerns about physical and mental aptitude, the submission of specialist medical reports by doctors with qualifications in traffic medicine or a medical-psychological report may be ordered.
In certain cases, advanced seminars or courses to restore fitness to drive must be completed.
After your driver's license has been revoked, you must reapply for a new one. This is the responsibility of the driving license office of the district or city of your main place of residence.
