Foreigners can apply for German citizenship under certain conditions.

Children born in Germany to foreign parents can acquire German citizenship by birth under certain conditions.

Foreigners who have had their legal habitual residence in Germany for eight years and meet the other requirements for naturalization are entitled to naturalization. Under certain conditions, naturalization is also possible on a discretionary basis.

The Thuringian State Administration Office is responsible for the discretionary naturalization process in the field of citizenship law and is also the authority responsible for overseeing objections and technical matters.

An official form is not required for the application. To facilitate the application, the citizenship authorities provide forms.
