If you wish to marry abroad, you may need a certificate of no impediment to marriage. You must apply for this at the relevant registry office.
A certificate of no impediment to marriage is issued by the registry office of the place of residence for German nationals marrying abroad. If the person getting married has neither a residence nor a habitual abode in Germany, the registry office of the last habitual abode is responsible for issuing the certificate of no impediment to marriage. If the person entering into the marriage has never stayed in Germany or has only stayed temporarily, the registry office I in Berlin is responsible.
Please enquire with the competent foreign authority in advance of the marriage as to whether a certificate of no impediment to marriage is required there.
You can find out which documents need to be submitted from the relevant registry office.
In Thuringia, issuing a certificate of no impediment to marriage costs 50 euros, and 100 euros if foreign law is to be observed.
Please contact the registry office responsible for you. If they offer an online service for applying for a certificate of no impediment to marriage, you can submit your application or documents via this service.
