(The law on burial contains regulations on post-mortem examinations, the preparation and transfer of corpses, and burial in the ground and cremation. In addition, specifications are made for the burial facilities).

In principle, burial is possible no earlier than 48 hours after the occurrence of death and must be carried out no later than 10 days after the determination of death. Bodies can be buried in the ground or cremated.

In the event of a death, you as the spouse or relative of the deceased are obliged to notify a doctor immediately. The doctor will perform the post-mortem examination and issue a death certificate, which you must send to the registry office without delay.

In exceptional cases, permission to bury the deceased outside a cemetery may be granted. The prerequisite is that you can give an important reason for this. You must apply for the permit at the responsible public order office.
