You can receive funding for certain measures to reduce the risk of flooding and to develop watercourses.

The Free State of Thuringia supports you in projects for watercourse development and flood protection.

You will receive funding for projects to reduce the risk of flooding by

• Recovering natural retention areas by dismantling and relocating dykes,
• New construction or expansion of dams or flood protection facilities
• Use of mobile flood protection systems
• Watercourse development measures to improve the drainage capacity
• Technical concepts, planning and preparatory studies and
• initial equipment for the provision of water protection services.

You will also receive funding for projects to develop watercourses by

• the creation of near-natural watercourse structures or the initiation of near-natural development,
• the improvement of riparian habitats
• the improvement of river continuity and
• the creation of water development concepts and plans.

You will also receive funding for beaver-induced additional expenses.

You can also receive funding for the creation of river continuity at third-party facilities.

You receive the funding as a grant.

The amount of funding depends on the type of measure.

Third-party projects or applications for initial equipment for water defense services or for beaver-induced additional expenses:
Please submit your application to the Thüringer Aufbaubank via the Thuringian funding portal. The documents required for the application are listed for you in the funding portal.

Depending on the measure, you are eligible to apply as a water maintenance association or local authority.

For measures to establish continuity at third-party facilities, you can apply in particular as natural and legal persons under public and private law as the owner of the facilities.

Funding is subject to certain conditions:

• Your project must be part of the annual funding list for the promotion of flood protection and watercourse development. This does not apply to the initial provision of equipment for water protection services.
• When planning and implementing projects, you must take into account the requirements of the environment, nature conservation and landscape conservation.
• For construction projects, you must submit the legal requirements necessary for the project at the time of approval.

After submitting your funding application / list of measures, your project will be reviewed and evaluated. If your project is selected for funding, you will receive a request via the online portal to submit your application within a specified deadline.

You can apply directly via the online portal for projects to establish continuity at third-party facilities, for the initial equipping of water weirs and for the reimbursement of beaver-induced additional costs.

If all documents are complete and the application meets the requirements, you will receive your grant notification. You may only start your project from this point in time .

During the implementation of the project, you request the grant via the funding portal on the basis of paid invoices / personnel expenses.

Once the project has been completed, you must submit a proof of use via the funding portal within 6 months.

Please submit a funding application for flood risk reduction projects to the Thüringer Aufbaubank (TAB) by February 28 of the previous year. You can submit applications for initial equipment for the water defense service on an ongoing basis.

As a water maintenance association, compile lists of measures for watercourse development projects by February 28 of the previous year and submit them to the TAB. Apply for reimbursement of beaver-induced additional expenses by March 31 of the following year.

You can submit an application for the creation of continuity at third-party facilities on an ongoing basis.

As a rule, you may only start the project once you have received a grant notification.

Within the project term, the grants for the respective year must be called up for payment by 31.10. of the year.

Six months after the end of the project, you must submit a proof of use.

This funding program provides EU development funds. For this reason, you must comply with certain obligations by making public reference to the support of the project with EU funds. We will inform you of the exact obligations (publications on the website, poster or construction sign) with the grant notification.

If you provide incorrect or incomplete information about facts relevant to the subsidy or omit to provide information about facts relevant to the subsidy, you may be liable to prosecution for subsidy fraud.

You have one month to appeal against the authority's decisions to the competent administrative court.
