If you already have a firearms possession card (WBK) and wish to purchase another firearm requiring a permit, you must apply for the permit from the relevant firearms authority (pre-entry).

Permission to purchase is granted by the competent authority by means of an entry in the existing gun ownership card (pre-entry).

The following note only applies to marksmen:

If you are a sport shooter and have a green gun ownership card (WBK), you must provide a certificate from the shooting sports association or an affiliated sub-association to substantiate the need to purchase the weapon. This certificate must state that you have been a member of a sports club for one year, which is a member of a recognized shooting sports association and in which shooting with such weapons is permitted in accordance with approved shooting sports regulations. In addition, that you have regularly taken part in training (at least once a month or at least 18 times within a year) and that the weapon to be purchased is approved and required for a sporting discipline in accordance with the sporting regulations of the shooting sports association.

With the pre-registration you have one year to acquire a weapon requiring a permit.

In the application for a permit for the further purchase of a weapon, you must specify the number, type and caliber of the weapons to be purchased. Further details such as the manufacturer and exact model are not initially required. You only have to provide this information once you have acquired the weapon and have fulfilled your obligation to report the acquisition of the weapon to the relevant weapons authority. The acquisition of the weapon must be reported to the competent authority in writing or electronically within two weeks.

You must prove that you can safely store the weapon you wish to purchase.

• Identity card or passport (copy)
• Gun ownership card (WBK), hunting license if applicable
• If applicable, proof of need from the shooting sports association (only for sports shooters with a green gun ownership card)Proof of safe storage, e.g. purchase contract for a gun cabinet and/or photos of the gun cabinet and installation location

You have a green gun ownership card (WBK).

The weapons authority charges fees in accordance with No. 1.1 of the Annex to the Thuringian General Administrative Cost Regulations.

You must apply for the pre-registration at the relevant firearms authority. Submit the application together with the required documents.

The weapons authority will grant you the permit if you meet the necessary requirements.

The acquisition of the weapon must be reported to the competent weapons authority in writing or electronically within two weeks.

With the pre-registration, you have one year to acquire a weapon requiring a permit. The purchase of the weapon must be reported in writing or electronically to the relevant weapons authority within two weeks.

You can use the NWR identification numbers (NWR ID) to complete the application more quickly:

• Your personal NWR ID (P or F NWR ID) for your personal details
• the permit NWR ID for the firearms permit (E-NWR ID)
• the weapon or weapon part NWR ID (W or T NWR ID).

You can obtain the NWR IDs on request from the relevant weapons authority.

• Permission to purchase weapons and ammunition with existing green WBK (previous entry)
• Purchase of a weapon requiring a permit must be applied for (purchase authorization)
• Pre-registration entitles the holder to purchase a weapon requiring a permit; without pre-registration, the gun dealer/private gun owner may not sell the weapon
• For pre-registration, it is sufficient to state the number, type of weapon and caliber, not the exact model.
• Pre-registration is valid for 1 year; the weapon can be purchased within this period
• Prerequisite:
  • Green gun ownership card (WBK), hunting license if applicable
  • For sports shooters with a green gun ownership card (WBK), confirmation of need by the sports association or its affiliated sub-association is required
• Acquisition of the weapon must be reported to the responsible weapons authority within two weeks; weapons dealers must also report the transfer of the weapon
