Working as a healthcare and nursing professional is regulated in Germany.

This means that in order to work as a nurse in Germany, you must apply for a state license. With this permit, you can use the job title "healthcare and nursing assistant" and work in the profession.

You will need the following documents to process the application:

• Proof of the state examination certificate, to confirm that the training period prescribed by the respective law has been completed and the state examination has been passed or proof of the notice of equivalence of the foreign professional qualification.
• Proof of reliability; this is the confirmation that you have not been guilty of any behavior that would make you unreliable to practice the profession. This can be done by presenting an official driver's license, which must not be older than 3 months at the time the permit is issued.
• Medical certificate stating that you are not medically unfit to exercise the profession, which must not be older than 3 months at the time the permit is issued.
• Confirmation that you have the necessary knowledge of the German language to carry out the professional activity (language level B2)

The license will be issued to you if you

• have completed the training period prescribed by law and passed the state examination,
• have not been guilty of any conduct that would make you unreliable to practise the profession,
• are medically fit to practise the profession,
• have the necessary knowledge of the German language to exercise the profession.

Is based on the respective administrative fee schedule of the federal state or on the fee statutes of the authorities responsible under federal state law.

You must apply for the permit from the competent authority.

Once you have submitted the application and all documents are complete, the competent authority will check whether you meet all the requirements.

If you meet all the requirements, you will receive the permit.

You may only start working once you have received the permit.

If the documents are complete, your application will be processed promptly.

There are no deadlines to be observed.
