Some children and young people have difficulties in their personal development. They find it difficult to approach other children, get involved in groups or overcome their problems independently.
Participation in social group work is intended to help older children and young people overcome developmental difficulties and behavioral problems.
Social group work can be useful for children and young people if they
- repeatedly get into violent confrontations.
- have little self-confidence and behave conspicuously.
- are unable to assert themselves.
In social group work, older children and young people meet regularly under the guidance of trained educational staff.
Social group work encourages social learning. It provides positive experiences, adventures and insights and thus promotes respect for others and self-confidence. The aim is for young people to become responsible and socially competent individuals.
Objectives and content depend on the topic of the social group work. Contents can be
- Development of group dynamics.
- Recognizing the triggers of one's own anger and aggression.
- Recognizing and expressing one's own feelings.
- Perceiving and recognizing one's own and others' boundaries.
- Resolving conflicts peacefully.
This is a type of educational support service. It can also apply to young adults.
