If you would like to attend individual courses at a university without enrolling, you have the option of guest auditor status.

A guest auditor offers you the possibility of general further education in individual areas of knowledge. However, guest auditorships do not entitle you to take examinations or to pursue a formal degree.

Application for guest auditor status from the respective university:

• Among other things, the application must include personal details, the desired semester, and the intended course.
• Participation requires the consent of the course instructor or the prior approval of a course for guest students by the respective department.

The prerequisite for participation in a desired course is the availability of sufficient capacity at the university and can be either the approval of the course director or the prior release of a course for guest students by the respective department.

Proof of a university entrance qualification (e.g. Abitur) is not required.

The universities charge guest auditor fees for each semester depending on the scope of the desired courses.

Please inquire via the website of your desired university about the respective amounts, the number of possible semester hours per week, payment deadlines and payment methods.

The application for guest auditor fees is made available on the university's website. You must submit the completed application to the respective university by the deadline and pay the guest auditor fee. The amount for the guest auditor fee must be received on the university's account before the application can be approved.

You must apply for guest auditor status for one semester. You can extend it for one semester at a time. To do so, you must submit a new application.

You can find out which courses are offered by consulting the relevant course catalog or the university's website.

The approved application for guest auditor status entitles you to attend the desired courses. You will receive a guest auditor (admission) certificate and, upon request, a certificate of attendance....

There is no processing deadline for guest auditor applications. Processing takes place after receipt of the application.

You must have submitted your application for guest auditor status by the beginning of the lecture period.

• If the capacity of a desired course is already exhausted due to the occupancy of regular students, you cannot be guaranteed participation as a guest student.
• As a guest student, you have no status as a student due to the lack of enrollment.
• You are also not entitled to a student ticket for the use of public transport or student discounts in the refectory.
• It is not possible to take exams in the selected courses.
• As a guest student, you are not entitled to use university services such as university sports, etc.
• Guest students are not legally protected against accidents in the university buildings.
  

Since guest auditors can only be admitted by the university within the scope of the available study opportunities, there is no rejection notice and therefore no appeal notice.
