A custody register is kept at the responsible youth welfare office for children of parents who are not married to each other. Entries are made in this custody register when:

• custody declarations are made,
• custody has been jointly transferred in whole or in part on the basis of a legally binding court decision
• custody has been wholly or partially withdrawn from the mother or transferred to the father on the basis of a final court decision.

A mother who is not married to the father of the child may obtain a certificate stating that and to what extent she is the holder of parental custody of her child.

Proof of identification (identity card or passport)

• Date of birth of the child
• Place of birth of the child
• Name of the child, which he/she had at the moment of the birth registration

Free of charge

If you, as the mother of the child, are not married to the father, you can obtain a certificate from the responsible youth welfare office stating that and to what extent you are the holder of parental care for your child.

• Submit an application for information from the custody register to the responsible youth welfare office.

• The Youth Welfare Office checks whether entries have been made in the custody register and issues a negative certificate if necessary.
