Fahrerlaubnis - Erweiterung der Fahrerlaubnis um die Klassen AM, A1, A2 oder A beantragen

You can have your existing driver's license upgraded to a Class AM, A1, A2 or A driver's license.

With driving license class AM you can drive two- and three-wheeled mopeds as well as four-wheeled light motor vehicles (up to 45 km/h).

With driving license class A1, you can drive motorcycles with up to 125 cubic centimeters of engine capacity and up to 11 kW of power, as well as three-wheeled motor vehicles with a maximum design speed of more than 45 km/h and with a power of up to 15 kW.

With the A2 driving license class, you can drive motorcycles with a power of up to 35 kW that are not derived from a motorcycle with a power of more than 70 kW.

With the (large) driving license class A you can drive motorcycles as well as three-wheeled motor vehicles.

Driving license classes AM, A1, A2 and A are issued for an unlimited period of time.

To obtain the driving license extension, you must pass a theoretical and a practical test.

Simplified requirements apply for (step) advancement from class A1 to A2 or A2 to A.

Photo identification (identity card or passport (if passport is presented: enclose a current registration certificate from the registration office responsible for the main place of residence))

current photograph, 45 x 35 mm in portrait format and without border (so-called biometric passport photograph) - frontal photograph, without head covering and without covering of the eyes

eye test certificate from an optician or certificate/report from an ophthalmologist (must not be older than 2 years at the time of application)

You must have a driver's license.

You must have your main residence in the Federal Republic of Germany.

The minimum age for class AM is 15 years.

The minimum age for class A1 is 16 years.

The minimum age for class A2 is 18 years.

The minimum age for class A is 24 years for motorcycles with direct access, 21 years for three-wheeled motor vehicles with a power of more than 15 kW.

The fee is based on the Fee Regulations for Road Traffic Measures (GebOSt).

If the driver's license is sent directly to the home address, an additional shipping fee will be charged.

The theoretical test must be passed within 12 months of receipt of the test order by the Technical Inspection Agency (DEKRA).

The practical test must be taken within 12 months of passing the theoretical test. Otherwise, the theoretical test loses its validity.
