As an employer, you can make recurring inspections of certain systems in potentially explosive atmospheres superfluous by means of an elaborated maintenance concept.

Recurring inspections of certain systems or components of systems in potentially explosive atmospheres may not be necessary if the employer has defined a maintenance concept as part of the risk assessment. This must ensure that a safe condition of the plant is maintained and that explosion safety is guaranteed.

The suitability of the maintenance concept must be evaluated as part of the inspection. The work and measures carried out on the plant as part of the maintenance concept must be documented and presented to the authorities on request.

An informal complaint can be made by telephone, e-mail or in writing. The following information is required for processing:

• Type of plant(s) requiring monitoring.
• Details of the employer/operator
• Information on the reason for the complaint

For certain systems in potentially explosive atmospheres, a maintenance concept that meets certain requirements may make periodic inspection unnecessary.
