Are you looking for a person and would like to know their surname, first name or current address? Then you can request a simple information from the civil register.

Within the scope of a simple information request, the registration office will provide you with the surname, first names, doctor's degree and current addresses of the person you are looking for. If the person is deceased, you will be informed of this.

If no person or several persons can be found in the population register with the information provided by the inquiring person or body, or if an information block according to § 51 BMG or a conditional blocking notice according to § 52 BMG exists or other interests worthy of protection according to § 8 BMG oppose the provision of information, the provision of the population register information takes place with a neutral answer ("Information cannot be provided or cannot be provided at present for factual or legal reasons.").

The recipient of the information has the obligation to inform the data subject in accordance with Article 14(1) - (4) of the GDPR. This does not apply to the cases listed in Article 14(5) of the GDPR if and to the extent that

• the data subject already has the information,
• the provision of this information proves impossible or would require a disproportionate effort,
• the obtaining or disclosure is expressly regulated by German or Union law to which the controller is subject and which provides for appropriate measures to protect the data subject's legitimate interests, or
• the personal data is subject to professional secrecy, including a statutory duty of confidentiality, in accordance with German or Union law.

In the case of simple or extended information on the population register, the obligation to provide information pursuant to Art. 14 DSGVO also does not apply if

• its fulfillment would impair a legal interest, in particular the assertion of legal claims, unless the data subject's legitimate interest in fulfilling the information obligation prevails.

• The person you are looking for must be clearly identifiable from the information you provide. This means that you must already have data on the person concerned. This is usually the first and last name, date of birth, gender or - an address.
• If you are using the data for commercial purposes, you must provide it.
• You must declare in the request that you will not use the data for purposes of advertising or address trading.

• Simple information from the civil register: 11,00 Euro
• Information from the civil register for commercial purposes: 13,00 Euro
