You can obtain your civil partnership certificate from the registry office in whose area the civil partnership was established.

Since October 1, 2017, no new civil partnerships have been established for people of the same sex in Germany.

However, on the basis of a civil partnership entry, the registrar will continue to issue a civil partnership certificate upon request.

To apply for a civil partnership certificate, you will generally need

• Your identity card or passport (a certified copy if applying in writing, you must authenticate yourself electronically online)
• if applying for or collecting the certificate through a representative: written authorization from the authorized person, their identity card or passport and the identity card or passport of the representative
• for other persons, proof of their legal interest

You can usually apply for a civil partnership certificate in person, in writing or electronically.

If the relevant registry office offers an online service for applying for a civil partnership certificate, you can submit your application via this service.

• Issuing a civil partnership certificate
• The civil partnership certificate proves the establishment of a civil partnership.
• On the basis of a civil partnership entry, the registry office issues a civil partnership certificate on application.
• It contains the following information:
  • The first names and surnames before and after the civil partnership was established
  • Place and date of birth of the civil partners
  • Place and date of the establishment of the civil partnership
  • the annotations of dissolution, if applicable
• The issue of a civil partnership certificate or a certified register printout costs 10 euros per certificate.
• Responsible: Registry office in whose area the civil partnership was established.
