If you are an airline pilot and would like to extend an existing rating, you may require refresher training at your flight school, after which you can have the extension confirmed on your license.

In order to be allowed to participate in air traffic, you need a permit (aviation license/pilot license) in which the respective acquired authorizations are entered. Unlike the aviation license, which is valid indefinitely, the ratings are limited in time. In order to use the rating beyond the limited date, it must be extended before its validity expires. The renewal is done by hand entry on the pilot's license by an examiner or instructor of your choice. This person will then notify the authority of the extension of the rating.

Acquiring an aviation license

Once you have covered all the required subjects in theory lessons at the aviation school, you then take the theory exam at the Thuringian State Administration Office. If you have also successfully mastered this hurdle, the practical lessons follow. Once you are ready for the exam, the aviation school will register you for the practical exam at the Thuringian State Administration Office. The latter issues an examiner assignment with an approved flight examiner. After successfully passing the exam, you can be issued your license - after submitting all required documents.

Renewal

In the event that the validity period of a rating has expired, it can be renewed upon application by undergoing refresher training and passing a proficiency check.

Conversion

Upon request, the rights deriving from the license may be converted.

Passing the theoretical exam: within 18 months after the start of the exam.

Passing the practical exam: within two years after passing the theory exam.

Renewal of the permit: before the expiry of the validity of the permit.
