Are you a private pilot and would like to convert your pilot's license? Then you can submit an application for conversion to the state aviation authority.

In order to be allowed to participate in air traffic, you need a permit (aviation license/pilot's license). The conversion of the PPL permit into an LAPL permit is carried out by the state aviation authority at your request.

To be submitted by the aviation school:

Registration for training

Registration for participation in the examinations

only for pilot licenses for motor-driven aircraft: valid certificate of background check according to § 7 of the German Aviation Security Act (LuftSiG)

Copy of the identity card

To be submitted by the applicant:

Valid certificate of fitness from an aviation medical examiner

Declaration of ongoing investigation and criminal proceedings

for minors: Consent of the legal representative

only for SPL (without TMG) and BPL: certificate of good conduct (document type O)

Extract from the driver suitability register

Copy of radiotelephone certificate (if available)

There must be a valid PPL.

An administrative fee of €25.00 is charged for the conversion of an aviation license.

Acquiring an aviation license

Once you have covered all the required subjects in theory lessons at the aviation school, you then take the theory exam at the Thuringian State Administration Office. If you have also successfully mastered this hurdle, the practical lessons follow. Once you are ready for the exam, the aviation school will register you for the practical exam at the Thuringian State Administration Office. The latter issues an examiner assignment with an approved flight examiner. After successfully passing the exam, you can be issued your license - after submitting all required documents.

Renewal

In the event that the validity period of a rating has expired, it can be renewed upon application by undergoing refresher training and passing a proficiency check.

Conversion

Upon request, the rights deriving from the license may be converted.

Passing the theoretical exam: within 18 months after the start of the exam.

Passing the practical exam: within two years after passing the theory exam.

Renewal of the permit: before the expiry of the validity of the permit.

As a holder of a valid permit to fly an aircraft (PPL), you can apply to convert your permit into an LAPL. In this case, the theoretical and practical PPL training will be fully recognized on the LAPL permit.
