You must register your commencement of work as a veterinarian with the relevant authorities.

If you wish to practice your profession as a veterinarian in Thuringia, you must register this with the State Veterinary Chamber of Thuringia and with the Veterinary and Food Surveillance Office responsible for the location of your professional activity within one month of commencing your professional activity, presenting your proof of authorization. The termination of your professional practice and any change of residence or establishment must also be reported to the above-mentioned offices.

The State Veterinary Chamber of Thuringia informs you about the documents to be enclosed with the application. In any case, the following certified copies must be enclosed

• of the university degree,
• of the license to practice medicine or the professional license,
• of the doctorate certificate, if available
• the certificate of a veterinary specialist, if available.

The practice of the veterinary profession requires that you have been granted a license to practice as a veterinarian. The temporary practice of the veterinary profession is also permitted on the basis of a professional permit. The Thuringian State Office for Consumer Protection is responsible for issuing the license or permit.

There are no fees to pay.

You can register your professional activity in person or in writing/electronically. For the registration with the State Veterinary Chamber of Thuringia, please use the Veterinary Chamber registration form as well as the form "Type of activity". The registration at the responsible veterinary and food control office can be done informally.

The processing time depends on the completeness and suitability of the submitted documents (see above).

You must register the commencement of professional activity within one month, in case of temporary professional activity within five days, after the commencement of professional activity.

Compliance with the reporting obligations is one of the professional duties of veterinarians. Culpable violations of this can be punished with an administrative fine of up to five thousand EUR in individual cases according to § 11 Thuringian Medical Profession Act.

You are also obliged to register with the Thuringian Chamber of Veterinary Surgeons if you do not practice your profession in Thuringia but have your usual place of residence there.

In the event of disputes between veterinarians and between veterinarians and third parties arising from the practice of their profession, recourse may be had to the Arbitration Committee of the State Veterinary Chamber of Thuringia.

Anyone wishing to practice as a veterinarian in Thuringia must register this with the State Veterinary Chamber of Thuringia and with the Veterinary and Food Surveillance Office responsible for the place of professional activity within one month of commencing professional activity, submitting their credentials.
