§ Section 8 (1) in conjunction with. §§ 16a ff. AufenthG

You must have your residence permit extended in good time if you wish to continue your training in Germany or if you wish to extend your residence permit after successfully completing qualified vocational training in order to find a job appropriate to your qualifications. This applies to all foreign nationals from non-EU and non-EEA countries who are undergoing training in Germany.

• Proof that the requirements for the initial issue of the residence permit have been met
• Proof that
  • you will maintain your training relationship
  • there is a concrete prospect that training success can be achieved within a reasonable period of time
  • you have successfully completed your qualified vocational training.

Pleasealso enquire at the relevant immigration office as to which documents are required.

To extend your residence permit, you must meet the same requirements as for the initial issue of a residence permit.

In addition

• your training relationship must be maintained and
• there must be a concrete prospect that you will be able to successfully complete your training within a reasonable period of time.

After successful completion of the qualified vocational training, the residence permit can be extended for up to one year in order to find a job appropriate to the qualified vocational training. During this period, any gainful employment may be pursued.

The amount of the fee depends on the period of validity of the residence permit:

• up to three months: 96 euros,
• over three months: 93 euros.

Note: You can only be exempted from the fees in exceptional cases.

The foreigners authority in whose district you usually reside is responsible (depending on where you live, the district administrator of the district or the mayor of the independent city).
