If you move within your municipality, you must inform your municipality of your new address.
The registration authority may ask the applicant to submit the documents required for the proper fulfillment of its task. These are often
- Identity card or passport
- Identity cards of family members, if all are registered on one registration form
- Children's passport or birth certificate (for children who do not have a children's passport).
It is best to have your identity card updated in your municipality at the same time as you re-register.
When registering your new home, you must submit a confirmation of residence or an allocation feature to the registration office, which you will receive from the landlord.
To re-register, you must complete and sign the officially prescribed registration form. This can be obtained from the registration office. You can be represented by a suitable person when submitting the registration form. Some municipalities also have the registration form available for download. If the municipality keeps the registration register automatically, you do not have to fill in the registration form if you appear in person at the registration office and confirm the accuracy of the data you have provided with your signature on a printout.
In some municipalities, you can use an online service.
Family members who have lived in the same home and are moving with you should use one registration form together.
Once you have re-registered, you will receive a confirmation of registration for your records.
In Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, the responsible registration authorities are the mayors of the independent towns, the mayors of the large towns belonging to the district and the independent municipalities and the heads of the local authorities as local registration authorities.
