During calibration, a tested measuring device is marked as calibrated by the main stamp and protected against tampering by a security stamp. The period of validity of the verification is limited in time.

The competent authority may authorize companies that repair calibrated measuring instruments (repairers) to identify repaired measuring instruments with a special mark (repairer mark) at their request. The companies are authorized as repairers

• if they are equipped with the facilities required for repair and adjustment and if tested standard devices are available and
• competent personnel are available.

The following is sufficient proof of the personnel's expertise

• for the owner of the repair business or the responsible technical employee of the business, a master craftsman's certificate or at least five years' experience in a relevant profession,
• for other repair personnel, the master craftsman's or journeyman's examination or at least one year's experience in a relevant profession. (Further proof is required for maintenance personnel for electronic equipment).

In many cases, approval also requires the availability and knowledge of the calibration regulations and, if applicable, other documents.

The competent authority may require information and documents to prove these requirements. Authorization is granted in writing for certain types of measuring instruments. The authorized company is assigned a maintenance mark. The granting of the authorization and the allocation of the repairer's mark is issued in the form of a certificate.

You must address the application for the granting of the authority to the competent authority for the place of your business establishment. The application must specify the types of measuring instruments for which the authorization is requested. The competent authority may request information and documents to prove the above requirements, as far as it is necessary for the assessment of the application.

Fees according to expenditure in accordance with section 14.5.1.1 of the Ordinance on Fees for Metrology and Verification

The processing time depends on the extent to which the prerequisites can be met. Only after all requirements have been met will recognition be granted (in a timely manner).
