The study of medicine includes a state examination. Proof of passing the second section of the medical examination is a prerequisite for licensing as a doctor. A medical degree course of five to 500 hours and a duration of six years at a university or equivalent institution of higher education (university). The final year of the course generally comprises 48 weeks of practical training (practical year):

  1. training in first aid
  2. a nursing service of three months
  3. a clinical traineeship of four months
  4. the medical examination, which is taken in three stages

Erforderliche Unterlagen

Section M1:

  • Birth certificate (if applicable, marriage certificate and, if applicable, proof of change of citizenship)
  • Certificate of general higher education entrance qualification in certified copy (- in the case of foreign educational certificates, also the certificate of recognition)
  • Study record book, study certificates
  • First aid training
  • Nursing service certificates for 90 calendar days
  • Physics internship for medical students
  • Chemistry internship for medical students
  • Biology internship for medical students
  • Practical course in physiology
  • Practical course in biochemistry/molecular biology
  • Macroscopic anatomy course
  • Microscopic anatomy course
  • Medical psychology and medical sociology course
  • Physiology seminar

  • If applicable, notification of the recognition of academic achievements or periods of study
  • Transcript of records or certificate of study progress (incl. all semesters) or individual certificates of enrolment including last semester* Important: Information on semesters of leave required
  • If changing university: certificate(s) of exmatriculation
  • Certificate of passing the first section of the medical examination or certificate of passing an equivalency examination in the model degree program or notification of credit transfer if acquired abroad or certificate of passing the preliminary medical examination
  • Birth certificate and, if applicable, marriage certificate and, if applicable, proof of change of citizenship
  • Documents that result in a change of name (e.g. marriage certificate)
  • Proof of university entrance qualification

Section M3:

  • Transcript of records or certificate of study (incl. all semesters) or individual certificates of enrollment including last semester* Important: Information on semesters of leave of absence required
  • Certificates of the practical year (PJ)
  • If changing university: certificate(s) of exmatriculation
  • if the M2 was not taken in MV, additionally:
  • Birth certificate
  • Certificates that result in a change of name (e.g. marriage certificate)
