The disposal of hazardous waste from private households is the responsibility of the public waste disposal authorities. You can dispose of waste portable batteries free of charge at the relevant collection points and recycling centers.
Batteries are non-rechargeable (or only very limited) storage units for electrical energy. They are also referred to as primary cells. The Battery Act classifies batteries according to their area of application. A distinction is made between portable, vehicle and industrial batteries.
Accumulators are rechargeable storage elements, also known as secondary cells. Several interconnected secondary cells are also referred to as a battery. The main components of batteries are usually metals. Their recovery contributes to the conservation of resources. However, batteries also contain substances that are hazardous to health and the environment. For this reason, disposal via residual waste is prohibited.
The take-back of waste portable batteries is mainly the responsibility of battery distributors (retailers). The public waste disposal authorities also offer the disposal of waste portable batteries as hazardous waste via collection points / mobile hazardous waste collection points and recycling centers.
