If you would like to study in Germany, you can obtain a residence permit to fulfill conditions before starting a full-time course of study as well as for part-time studies, a preparatory language course or aa pre-study internship receive.

Volltext

The residence permit for the purpose of fulfilling conditions before taking up studies in Germany is a temporary residence permit.

Specifically, the residence permit can be issued if

  1. you have been admitted to full-time study by a state university, a state-recognized university or a comparable educational institution, but the admission is subject to a condition that is not aimed at attending a preparatory course (for example, admission to a Master's degree course is linked to the submission of proof of completion of a Bachelor's degree);
  2. you have been admitted to full-time studies by a state university, a state-recognized university or a comparable educational institution, but the admission is subject to the condition that you must first attend a preparatory college or a comparable institution. Admission is also possible if you are not yet able to provide proof of admission to a preparatory college or comparable institution;
  3. you have been admitted to part-time study by a state university, a state-recognized university or a comparable educational institution;
  4. you have been accepted to participate in a preparatory language course without having already been admitted by a higher education institution; or
  5. you have been accepted by a company to complete an internship in preparation for your studies.

When deciding whether to issue a residence permit for the above-mentioned purposes, the Foreigners' Registration Office may obtain and take into account opinions from the university or other institutions approved for training or further education on matters relating to study requirements, the course of study, the degree and other academic matters.

If you have not yet reached the age of 18, the persons entitled to take care of you must agree to your stay in Germany.

Hinweise

  • You have no right to be granted a residence permit. It is at the discretion of the immigration authority to grant the residence permit.

In serious cases, incorrect or incomplete information that is not completed or corrected in good time vis-à-vis the immigration authority can result in the revocation of previously granted residence rights, a fine, a prison sentence of up to three years or expulsion from the federal territory.
  • Due to the complexity of residence law, this description is for information purposes only and is not legally binding.
