If your child's passport is lost or stolen abroad and you wish to travel home, you must have replacement travel documents issued. You can apply for these at the German mission abroad in the country you are traveling to.

Depending on whether you want to return directly to Germany or still enter other countries, either a travel document that is only valid for entry into Germany, a new children's passport or a passport must be issued.
Notice: Some countries require the entry stamp in your child's passport as proof of legal entry when you leave the country. In these cases, you may need to apply for an exit visa.

There is a cost of EUR 26.00 for a child's passport.
Travel documents issued by the representative authorities of other EU countries are subject to different fees.

Replacement travel documents can be issued upon request by the German mission abroad in the country of travel. Visit the German embassy, consulate general or consulate with the required documents (honorary consuls are not authorized to issue them).

Hints: In order to issue you a child passport or temporary passport, the passport authority of your place of residence must issue the authorization. This may take different amounts of time depending on the individual case and the availability of the authority. If you also need an exit visa, your onward travel may be additionally delayed.
Validity
