If you process or handle wine or grape must commercially, store it or trade in it, you are obliged to declare your wine and grape must stocks to the competent state office. This does not apply to retailers.

If you process or handle wine or grape must commercially, store it or trade in it, you must declare your stocks to the competent Land office by the deadline of 31.07. of the respective year.

You must ask the responsible Landesstelle for the deadline if it is not listed below. For guidance, as a producer, processor, bottler or distributor (except retailers), you must submit your stock declarations no later than 10/09. However, EU member states may set an earlier deadline. Some German states have made use of this:

• Bavaria, Berlin, Brandenburg, North Rhine-Westphalia and Rhineland-Palatinate: 07.08.
• Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia: 10.08.
• Saxony: 14.8.
• Baden-Wuerttemberg: 20.08.
• Lower Saxony and Saarland: Aug. 31.
• Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: 01.09.
• Hamburg and Hesse: 10.09.

In the stock declaration you have to state in any case:

• Your identity and whether you are reporting as a producer, processor, bottler or distributor;
• the place of storage of the products;
• for wines:
  • The total stocks, broken down by color (red/rosé or white), type of wine (with PDO, with PGI, varietal wine without PDO/PGI or wine without PDO/PGI), origin (Union or third countries).
  • the type of holder of the stocks (producer or trader) (*see below for explanation);
• for grape must:
  • The total stocks, broken down by color (red/rosé or white), type of grape must (concentrated grape must, rectified concentrated grape must or other grape must),
  • the type of holder of the stocks (producer or merchant)*.

Union product quantities from the grape harvest of the same calendar year are not included in this declaration.

* You may need to differentiate between your own and purchased products stored on your own or rented premises on the survey date. It is irrelevant whether these are stored in tanks, barrels or bottles.

• You or your business store, handle or process wine or grape must commercially or trade in it. The following are subject to registration:
  • Companies that are registered in the vineyard register,
  • companies not included in the vineyard register that store, process, bottle or trade in wine and grape must for commercial purposes, i.e. in particular wineries, sparkling wine producers (sparkling wine cellars) and wholesalers.
  • Exception: retailers.

• Determine your wine and grape must stocks on 31.07. of the respective year.
• You can obtain the form for reporting your wine and grape must stocks from the competent Land office.
• Fill out the form and submit it to the responsible Landesstelle by the deadline. Inquire about the deadline.
• If you have any questions about your declaration, the competent authority will contact you.

You must determine your stocks for wine and grape must products on 31.07. and submit them by the deadline. In case of doubt, please ask your competent national office about the deadline. For orientation: According to EU law, the declaration of stocks must be made by 10.09. of the respective year at the latest. However, the federal states may have set earlier deadlines.
