If you want to slaughter domestic animals or farmed ungulates outside of an approved slaughterhouse, you must register with several public agencies.
Any person who intends to slaughter or kill domestic animals or ungulates kept as farmed game outside an approved slaughterhouse for his or her own domestic consumption shall notify the competent authority of the animal in question:
- for official ante-mortem inspection if, immediately before the intended slaughter, the person authorized to dispose of the animal has noticed a disturbance in the general condition of the animal that is not due to an accident that occurred immediately beforehand,
- to be registered for official post-mortem inspection, and
- in the case of pigs, horses or other ungulates which may be carriers of trichinae, to be notified for official examination for trichinae.
- The notification shall state the intended date of slaughter or killing.

Any person who intends to slaughter or kill domestic animals or ungulates kept as farmed game outside an approved slaughterhouse for his or her own domestic consumption shall notify the competent authority of the animal in question:
- for official ante-mortem inspection if, immediately before the intended slaughter, the person authorized to dispose of the animal has noticed a disturbance in the general condition of the animal that is not due to an accident that occurred immediately beforehand,

- The notification shall be made 3 days before slaughter, indicating the intended place and time of slaughter or killing.
Home slaughtering is slaughtering carried out privately, outside commercial slaughterhouses, the aim of which is to obtain meat for human consumption in one's own household. Even in the case of home slaughtering, it is essential to carry out an official ante-mortem and post-mortem inspection of the animals to be slaughtered in order to avoid any risk to humans and animals. This applies to cloven-hoofed animals, cattle, pigs, goats, sheep; solipeds such as horses, rabbits and farmed game, provided their meat is intended for human consumption.
