An operating licence for a branch pharmacy may be granted on application.

If there is an emergency in the supply of medicines because there are no pharmacies to supply the population, you as the owner of a nearby pharmacy can apply for permission to operate a branch pharmacy. Branch pharmacies have fewer facilities than normal pharmacies, but these are also regulated by law.

Branch pharmacies must be managed, and the manager needs a permit from the competent authority.

You will not usually be issued a permit for more than one branch pharmacy.

The permit is issued to you for 5 years, it can be reissued.

The cost of processing an application for a permit to operate a pharmacy is

• for operating one pharmacy: EUR 600.00 - 2,000
• for operating several public pharmacies: EUR 700.00 - 3,500

An operating license is issued to you upon application after

• The competent authority determines that the legal requirements are met.
• If the requirements are met, the operating permit is issued.
• An acceptance inspection of the operating premises must be carried out by the competent authority before the start of operation.
