If you would like to conduct training courses for dangerous goods officers, you must be recognized as a training organizer by the local Chamber of Industry and Commerce.

This requires an application to the IHK responsible for you. In the application you must, among other things

• specify the scope of the recognition (road transport, inland waterway transport, rail transport, maritime transport)
• enclose a timetable for each part of the course
• specify the available teaching material and illustrative material.

As a course organizer, you must have the necessary premises for the theoretical teaching units of the partially practical parts of the course as well as the necessary training material. In addition, your teaching staff must be professionally and pedagogically qualified.

The responsible IHK will inspect your premises and the teaching materials. The IHK can also contact the persons you have named as teaching staff to arrange appointments for additional assessment meetings if necessary.

If the requirements are met, the recognition will be confirmed by the local Chamber of Industry and Commerce. This will indicate the modes of transport for which you are authorized to conduct training courses.

• Curriculum/sample lesson plan (timetable) for the requested training courses with the following details:
  • Timetable (with breaks)
  • Topic to be covered including the planned time allocation
  • Type of teaching (e.g. lecture, discussion, technical media, film presentation, exercises)
    
• Documents of the teaching staff used as proof of professional and methodological/didactic suitability
  • Professional background
  • Proof of general knowledge of dangerous goods transportation law
  • Proof of special knowledge for the respective training parts
  • Proof of the ability to impart the knowledge in an adult-oriented manner
  • Presentation of a valid training certificate for the mode(s) of transport to be trained
  • Declaration of willingness to act as an instructor
    
• Further documents as required by your IHK, if applicable

The fee for recognition is based on the applicable fee schedule of the local Chamber of Industry and Commerce.

You first submit the application for recognition, modification or re-granting of recognition as a training organizer at your local Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK).

• The IHK will first check the documents submitted, such as curricula and teaching materials.
• Representatives of the IHK visit visit the training center and check its suitability on site. If necessary, assessment interviews are held with the teaching staff.
• Once the documents and training center have been checked, you will receive a notification of recognition from the IHK.

Once your training facility has been recognized, you may offer courses for dangerous goods safety advisors within the scope of the permit.

Depending on the documents submitted, the application should be reviewed within three weeks of receipt. Conducting an assessment interview with the teachers may lead to a longer processing time.
